How to Make ChatGPT Write Like a Human

Here, we’ll discuss the main difference between AI and human writing, how AI content detectors catch if your content is written with AI, strategies to humanize ChatGPT response how to optimize AI content to pass through AI content detectors, and more.

Let’s jump into the article.

You Should Understand ChatGPT’s Default Writing Style

To implement the strategies to make ChatGPT write like humans we must understand why ChatGPT and other AI content writers lack the human touch in their content.

We have to understand how these AI chatbots work. After understanding the concept we will be able to manipulate the prompts to get content with more human touch.

How ChatGPT is Trained

ChatGPT is powered by LLM (Large LAnguage Model) which is trained by a huge amount of text from various sources like books, articles, websites, and other data available publicly.

But, the main difference between LLMs and humans is they cant think, feel, or create any data as humans. It works on patterns; most likely the next words are based on the last created content or we say PATTERNS.

These patterns are easily caught by AI content detectors. AI content detectors usually find these patterns in between the content and predict above this.

ChatGPT does not have genuine creativity, emotions, and personal experience components that make human-written content more engaging and readable.

  • ChatGPT relies on pre-learned patterns that repeat sentence structures and phrases.
  • Even with the vast amount of data, it cannot provide data based on deep understanding. The human mind deeply understands and then responds.
  • Due to the lack of emotions and feelings, ChatGPT-created content lacks professionalism. It produces just formal and robotic.
  • It can not inject personality into the content which is the x-factor of human-generated content.

Common Characteristics of AI-Generated Content

Have you ever noticed? You read something and your senses tell you that it was written by AI? Because AI works on patterns and your mind can recognize these patterns.

These patterns are,

  • Easily predictable and repetitive sentences: AI generates sentences in structures that make the reading monotonous.
  • Personal touch lacking: As AI is not real, it does not have real-life experiences, anecdotes, or deep emotional insights like humans.
  • Generic statements: AI LLMs work on patterns and they find them from the available data. It’s more generic than human-written content.
  • Minimal use of Metaphors, Idioms, and others: Humans use metaphors, idioms, and analogies. On the other hand, AI-generated text is more straightforward and lacks these things.
  • No or weak transitions: AI LLMs produce disjointed sentences. Where humans use transitions to join the sentences.

Discussing, how human writing differs from ChatGPT’s writing in the next part. This is the most crucial part of this blog post.

This part will tell you, what to do to bridge the gap.

Main Differences Between AI and Human Writing

AI and Human Writing

ChatGPT is an incredible tool for generating content, however even after releasing the 4.5 version it still lacks the key elements that make human writing unique and engaging.

Let’s look closer to this fact.

Tone and Voice

AI-generated content lacks the tone of voice. It’s overly formal and clearly looks like generated by a machine.

When you type a prompt in ChatGPT, you will generate content that lacks a personal touch like a human.

When a human writes content, he naturally adjusts his tone and voice, depending on the context of the content it may be friendly, professional, humorous, or persuasive.

Examples,

  • AI-generated content: “A well-balanced diet is essential for maintaining good health and overall well-being.”
  • Human-generated content: “Want to feel great and have more energy? It all starts with what’s on your plate!”

This is the main difference that you and an AI content detector tool can easily understand between AI-generated content and human-generated content. Romans often add personality, contractions, enthusiasm, and other emotions in their writing to make it more conversational and engaging.

Empathy and Relatability

If somebody asks me what is the key element of human communication, I will say it must be Empathy.

Empathy is the key element of human communication, which AILLM models struggle to produce.

As I have said above humans write with emotions, personal experiences, and more conversational tactics.

  • AI can try to mimic empathy but often sounds forced or mechanical tone.
  • Humans write with personal experiences and emotions and this is the main ingredient of their words feel authentic and relatable.

Now let’s see some examples.

  • AI: “Many people find it difficult to stay motivated when working remotely.”
  • Human: “I totally get it—working from home sounds amazing until you realize your couch is calling your name all day long. But don’t worry, here are some tried-and-tested tips to keep you on track!”

Originality and Creativity

AI generates content based on existing data and patterns fed into it. This data and pattern when used by AI do not feel genuine and creative like humans.

That’s why AI is best for data mining, but not ideal for content writing. If you don’t know how to use it to get the human touch.

AI often rephrases existing ideas fed into it instead of introducing new concepts. But humans powered by their imagination and life experiences, try to introduce new concepts and ideas in the content. That’s how human-generated content is always unique and fresh.

Example:

  • AI: “Time management is crucial for productivity. Setting goals can help individuals stay organized.”
  • Human: “Ever feel like there aren’t enough hours in the day? The trick isn’t finding more time—it’s making the most of what you have. Let’s talk about some game-changing time management hacks!”

So how do you use AI to generate less generic, unique, and fresh content like humans?

Strategies to Humanize ChatGPT Response

Strategies to Humanize ChatGPT Response

I know you are eager to know how to humanize ChatGPT responses and use them on your blogs and other applications. If you want to generate well-structured content with warmth, creativity, and authenticity like human writing, then you must use the following strategies in your Next ChatGPT prompt.

Here’s how to do that,

Detailed and Specific Prompts

You must be more specific to your content.

What does this mean?

You have to provide all the details you know about the content you want ChatGPT to produce against the prompt.

This is the first step. The more detailed instructions you provide to ChatGPT the more humanized content, you will get from it.

Examples:

  • Weak Prompt: “Write an article about productivity.”
  • Strong Prompt: “Write a friendly, conversational blog post about productivity tips for remote workers. Include real-life examples, a bit of humor, and engaging storytelling.”

In the above, example, the second one is more precise and detailed, to the point prompt, and very specific to the content that you want ChatGPT to produce.

Obviously, you will get better content by entering the second prompt.

Sensory Details and Personal Touches

Humans react by their senses-sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch. AI does not have these senses, that’s why they tend to produce dry and generic content. So you have to provide as many details as you have in the prompt to get responses that contain a personal touch and the content inspired by the senses of a human.

  • AI: “A sunset is a beautiful natural phenomenon that occurs daily.”
  • Humanized Response: “The sky turned a fiery shade of orange as the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm glow over the tranquil ocean waves.”

To get more humanized content, you have to provide sensory details to the AI LLM model.

Utilize Conversational Prompts

To save you from producing formal and structured text with your AI tool, you should use a conversational tone. What does this mean?

For example; instead of using, “Drinking water is essential for staying hydrated and maintaining bodily functions.” use this conversation version “You wouldn’t let your phone run out of battery, right? Well, your body needs water just as much! Keep sipping throughout the day.”

To get more personally touched content, you add in your prompt, “Write like you’re talking to a friend” or “Make it feel like a casual conversation over coffee.”

Add Humor and Personality

you can also add humor to make the content feel more authentic and relatable. As AI works on patterns it tends to be neutral, so always write your prompt with a playful and humorous tone.

When you are asking AI about the benefits of exercising, Instead of adding, “Exercise is important for maintaining good health.” add this one, “You don’t have to run a marathon—just get off the couch and shake a leg! Even a short walk can do wonders for your health.”

Isn’t it humorous?

By adding humor, metaphors, and engaging language, in your prompt, you can make AI-generated content sound much more human.

Provide Writing Samples for Style Mimicry

Last, but not least, one of the best ways to improve AI responses is to give them an example and instruct them to follow that when writing the content.

Here’s a great example by me,

“Here’s an example of my writing style: [Insert Sample]. Now, rewrite the following passage to match this tone.”

you can use the above techniques to transform your ChatGPT’s output from robotic to humanized without hitting your head against the wall.

Step-by-Step Guide to Implement the Above Strategies

Step-by-Step Guide to Implement the Above Strategies

You have to structure the prompt according to the above techniques to make the AI generate human-like writing.

Here is the five-step guide that will show you how to implement these strategies effectively and get human-like AI-generated content.

Step 1: Define the Desired Response (Outcome)

To get humanized content from ChatGPT, you have to clearly define what you actually want from the AI tool. You have to define what output it should produce.

  • Define the tone of content if it’s casual, professional, humourous, authoritative, friendly, conversational between two people, etc.
  • Clearly define your target audience. Is your audience beginner, professional, student, general readers, etc?
  • Also don’t forget to define the level of depth and complexity of the content, with simple, detailed, and technical.
  • Contents are always in two categories; storytelling and informative. You must define the category of content that you want in your output.

Didn’t understand? Here’s an example.

If you want to write a fitness-related blog post, decide whether it should be formal (for healthcare professionals) or casual with humor (for fitness enthusiasts).

Step 2: Develop a Comprehensive Prompt

In the second step, provide as much detail as you can. It should be detailed enough to guide ChatGPT structure a combination of detail and style.

Instead of writing this prompt; “Write a blog post about productivity.” write similar to this; “Write a friendly, conversational blog post about productivity for remote workers. Use humor, real-life examples, and engaging storytelling to keep it relatable.”

The second one is full of specific instructions to evaluate and produce content accordingly.

Step 3: Generate and Review the Output

After ChatGPT generates the response, review this as follows:

  • Does it sound natural and compelling, relatable to your audience?
  • Are sentences easy to read and not monotonous?
  • Does the content look like a real human wrote it?
  • Is it full of emotions that connect with the reader?

if the generated content fits all the criteria mentioned above then it’s okay, otherwise, follow the next steps.

Step 4: Refine and Edit the Content

Instruct the AI to add personality by injecting humor, anecdotes, or personal touches. Also, break the monotonous patterns manually. And lastly, replace generic phrases with expressive and engaging words a real human may use in his writing.

Want to see an example?

Here’s how;

  • AI Output: “Taking breaks during work is essential for productivity.”
  • You can refine the sentence: “Let’s be honest—staring at your screen for hours isn’t doing you any favors. Step away, stretch, grab a coffee, and watch how your focus bounces back!”

Step 5: Incorporate Personal Insights

Lastly, add real-life experiences to make the content unique. In several blog posts written in the past, I used my real-life examples to make them more engaging and expressive.

I added my opinions and own views on the topic to make the most engaging.

Even, when I made the content by ChatGPT, I manipulated it by adding my own experiences and expertise on the topic.

That’s the main key to getting humanized content out from ChatGPT.

If you follow this 5-step guide you can turn ChatGPT-generated content into high-quality, engaging, and content written like a human.

Practical Examples and Comparisons

Let us see some examples and comparisons that help you to make ChatGPT’s responses sound like humans.

Before and After Scenarios

Tone and voice comparison

  • AI-Generated content: Content marketing is an essential strategy for businesses to reach their audience and increase engagement.
  • Humanized version: Want to make your brand unforgettable? Smart content marketing is your secret weapon—it helps you connect with your audience, tell your story, and turn readers into loyal customers.

In the above example, you can see how engaging the humanized version is. Look into the rhetorical questions and directly address them in the sentence (“Want to make your brand unforgettable?”).

Improvement in Empathy and Relatability

  • AI-generated content: “Remote work can be challenging due to distractions and lack of structure.”
  • Humanized Version: “Ever found yourself working in pajamas, with a coffee in one hand and your phone in the other, only to realize you’ve done… absolutely nothing? Yep, remote work is tricky. But with a few smart habits, you can stay productive without losing your sanity.

The humanized version has a relatable scenario (working in pajamas, distractions) which makes the content more engaging and creates an emotional connection with your reader.

Originality and creative

  • AI-generated content: “Drinking enough water is important for maintaining good health.”
  • Humanized Version: “Your body loves water like your phone loves its charger—skip it for too long, and things start shutting down!”

You can see how metaphors (“your body loves water like your phone loves its charger”) are used in the humanized version.

Tools and Resources to Enhance Your AI Writing

There are several tools and resources available to improve your AI generated content.

Some more common AI writing assistants and tools are,

  • Grammarly
  • Hemingway Editor
  • Jasper AI
  • QuillBot
  • DeepL Write

How to Balance AI and Human Writing

How to Balance AI and Human Writing

Practice makes you perfect. So, practice with the prompts and use more descriptive and conversational ones to get human-like content.

Avoid Over-Reliance on AI

Don’t overuse AI to generate content. Overusing AI can make the content repetitive and boring. This is my own experience with AI content writers.

AI can’t get you emotional touch in the content which is required to come up with engaging content.

Balance AI and your own creative thinking to produce more engaging and humanized content with ChatGPT.

Use ChatGPT for drafting the content and refine the output manually to put a personal touch over it.

That’s how you can get rid of AI content detectors and produce more engaging content.

Conclusion

ChatGPT is a powerful content creation tool, but to make its content more engaging and humanized you have to manually add your personal touch with real-life experiences, humor, and conversational tone, and polish it for further use.

Here’s a quick recap of this article,

  • Use detailed prompts to guide the AI.
  • Add sensory details, humor, and conversational elements.
  • Personalize content with real-life experiences and insights.
  • Use writing tools to polish and refine AI-generated text.

These are all I use in my content generation strategy and get engaging and humanized content from ChatGPT.

Again, I would like to say, “PRACTICE MAKES YOU PERFECT”. So, practice with new prompts according to the strategies given above and your prompting will become better with time.
